Walk The Talk - An Acting Workshop for Theatre Directors & Teachers
WHEN
Thursday, 14 January 2016 from 18:45 to 22:15 (GMT)
WHERE
Church on the Corner - 64 Barnsbury Road London, England GB
This Thursday 14th I will be attending 'Walk The Talk - An Acting Workshop for Theatre Directors & Teachers.' The first of its kind i believe, created by Anna Jordan and WAP Theatre, as an oppportunity for Directors/Teachers to get experience, either for the first time, or as a refresher (if it's been a while) of taking direction. Brilliant.
I absolutely love this. Personally, a reminder, or a good kick up the backside of what actors go through is a fear-inducing, adrenalin pumping chance to learn some new skills and ways of working. It's also going to be a networking opportunity to meet other directors, swop ideas, tools and skills and maybe ever 'war-stories'. I'm also going to be running a demo there as well on Under-reading, a tool i use frequntly and that Anna observed when i directed her play Chicken Shop at Park theatre with Epsilon Productions, and one now she uses herself. LOVE!
Under-reading - actors are fed their lines by an 'under-reader' (another actor or person in the room). The Under-reader shadows them and feeds them their lines in short bursts whilst keeping the sense of the sentence. For actors, you are literally freed from the script. You are allowed to respond instinctively to the text, listening to your gut response. For the director the discoveries of character and text are found sooner, actors make riskier choices quicker, and lose their fear of leaping into the unknown. Excitingly, it allows for exploration of movement, fight and voice work to happen alongside the text as opposed to often coming second in a separate rehearsal. It is a phenomenal way of working that I recommend to everyone.
So, got no plans Thursday and feel like it's time to kick off the New Year with something a bit different to get the creative juices flowing? Come along. Use link above to grab a ticket, there are a couple of particpant tickets left and observer ones too if you just fancy checking it out.
See you there!
